About the role

INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS TECHNICIAN / PLC PROGRAMMER | APPLE GROVE, WV $50-55/HR + $120/DAY PER DIEM | CONTRACT-TO-HIRE | 1ST SHIFT

Overview

Mural is partnering with a global leader in metals and industrial manufacturing to find an Industrial Controls Technician and PLC Programmer for a large-scale project at their facility in Apple Grove, West Virginia -- just outside Huntington. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with strong hourly pay, daily per diem for hotel and meals, and the chance to build control systems from the ground up on a major industrial project.

What sets this role apart

This is not a modify-and-troubleshoot position. Our client needs someone who can develop PLC programs from scratch -- building the logic, the architecture, and the I/O structure from a blank slate based on process requirements and control narratives. If your experience is primarily adjusting existing programs, this is not the right fit.

What you will be doing

You will develop PLC programs from scratch in Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal (S7-300/400/1200/1500), including ladder logic, function block diagrams, and structured text. You will design and build I/O configurations, data structures, and program architecture for new control systems, integrate HMI/SCADA screens with PLC programs, configure tag databases, and commission, test, and debug programs on-site through I/O checkout and loop tuning. You will read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and panel layouts, coordinate with electricians and controls techs on wiring and sensor installation, troubleshoot control system issues in the field, and document all program logic and system architecture for handoff.

What we are looking for

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience programming PLCs from scratch -- Siemens Step 7 / TIA Portal is the strong preference for this engagement
  • Candidates with equivalent from-scratch experience in Allen-Bradley (RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000) or other major platforms (Omron, Mitsubishi, Schneider) will also be considered
  • Solid understanding of electrical schematics, I/O wiring, and control panel layouts
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and panel schematics
  • Knowledge of NEC/IEC wiring standards and field safety practices including LOTO
  • Comfortable working on-site with minimal supervision in a heavy industrial environment

Nice to have

HMI/SCADA development experience (Siemens WinCC, FactoryTalk, PanelView, or similar), industrial networking protocols (Profibus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet), motion control or safety PLC experience, and prior work on large-scale metals or heavy manufacturing projects.

Pay and Details

$50-55/hr based on experience. $120/day per diem covering hotel and meals. 1st shift: 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. 40-hour base week with overtime potential. Contract-to-hire. Apple Grove, WV.
